The problem is that credential stuffing doesn't wait — attackers take breach dumps from low-security sites and automate login attempts against every major financial institution. One leaked password from a retailer you ordered from in 2019 is your bank's front door. A single reused credential across 400 accounts means one breach anywhere is a breach everywhere.
Your passwords are saved in Chrome. Chrome syncs to every device signed into your Google account. Your kid's laptop is signed into your Google account. Your housekeeper uses the family iPad. A visiting relative borrowed your computer and Chrome offered to save their login. Browser-stored passwords have no vault-level encryption, no access controls, and no audit trail. Anyone who sits down at a device signed into your account can export your saved passwords in under sixty seconds. You've never checked what's in there.
Your Gmail and your Outlook are protected by two-factor authentication. The second factor is a text message to your phone number. SIM swapping — calling your carrier and convincing them to port your number to an attacker's SIM — takes thirty minutes and costs nothing. Once an attacker controls your phone number, every SMS code routes to them. Your email is the skeleton key to every other account. It resets passwords, receives bank notifications, holds private documents. SMS 2FA is better than nothing. It is not good enough for an account that controls your financial life.

We deploy 1Password Families for your household — not a shared vault where everyone sees everything, but individual vaults per family member with shared access only where it makes sense. The household manager gets the household credentials they need. Your spouse gets their own vault plus access to the family shared items. Your children get age-appropriate vault access. The master password is chosen and memorized using a tested mnemonic technique. We set it up, we onboard everyone in person, and we verify each person can log in independently before we leave.
YubiKey 5C NFC hardware security keys go on every critical account: banking, email, brokerage, crypto exchange, and any account that can reset the others. Hardware keys are phishing-proof — a cloned site cannot intercept them because the key authenticates to a specific domain. We configure two keys per account (one primary, one backup in a fireproof safe), register them with each institution, and disable SMS 2FA wherever the platform allows it. A stolen password and a SIM swap together cannot open your bank account if a hardware key is the second factor.
We pull your existing password inventory from every browser and any existing password manager you use. Every reused password across a financial, email, or high-value account gets replaced with a strong unique credential generated and stored in your new vault. We work through the critical-account list first — banking, email, brokerage, investment platforms, crypto — then through every account that has a stored payment method or PII. You never touch the old passwords again. They don't exist in a browser after this engagement.
Every account currently using SMS 2FA on a critical service gets migrated to TOTP (time-based one-time password via an authenticator app) or a hardware key. The TOTP codes are stored in 1Password as a second factor item, not in a separate app on a phone that can be lost. For accounts that support hardware keys, the key takes precedence — the TOTP is the backup. For accounts that only support SMS, we document the SIM-swap risk explicitly and migrate to a hardened phone number via a carrier-level security PIN where available.
1Password's Emergency Kit is printed, completed, and stored in a location your spouse and executor both know about. Emergency access is configured so your spouse can request vault access with a waiting period — protection against coercion, not against your own family. Your estate executor gets a sealed envelope with the account recovery path for every critical financial account, stored with your estate documents. If you are unreachable, the people who need to act on your behalf can. If you are reachable, they need your active confirmation first. Both cases are handled.

We pull every saved credential from Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and any existing password manager — Dashlane, LastPass, iCloud Keychain, whatever you've been using. We export, audit, and categorize: financial, email, work, shopping, everything else. You'll see for the first time exactly how many accounts you have, how many share passwords, and which ones have no 2FA at all. Most clients have between 300 and 600 credentials. The inventory is yours.
Your 1Password master password is the one password you will remember. We use a passphrase mnemonic technique — four to six random words, tied to a personal memory only you know. Strong enough to resist brute force. Simple enough to recall under stress. We verify you can type it correctly from memory before moving on. This is the last password you'll need to remember for the rest of the engagement.
Two YubiKey 5C NFC keys — one primary, one backup — are registered on your email, bank, brokerage, and crypto accounts. We disable SMS 2FA on every platform that allows it. We test each key against each account before marking it done. The backup key goes in a known secure location. From this point, no hardware key means no login to your critical accounts from an unrecognized device.

Your spouse is onboarded in person — we sit with them, configure their access, verify they can log in on their own devices, and walk through where to find the accounts that matter. This is not a video call or a set of written instructions. It is a hands-on session that ends when your spouse is independently operational. Emergency access is configured and tested before we leave.
